National Night Out Against Crime

Dear All,
It is getting close to that time of year again, school will be starting and on Tuesday, August 5th, is National Night Out Against Crime. Below is a registration form for you to fill out to let IMPD know that your neighborhood is participating. This way Sgt. Grimes knows what neighborhoods are participating. The officers of the Northwest District IMPD as well as others in the City/County Government will try to stop by and introduce themselves to as many of these events as possible. So get a group of your neighbors together and plan something over the weekend. Can be as simple or involved as you want to make it. Just a great way to get people together and also meet some of those who protect us every day.

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry
City-County Councillor District 6

Transition for Karen Lightbourne… New Mayor’s Neighborhood Liaison coming to Pike!

Change is coming to Pike Township. Starting August 1st, Karen Lightbourne will no longer be the Mayor’s Neighborhood Liaison for the area. In an effort to better serve all residents of Indianapolis, the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services has redrawn the MNL Districts and made some reassignments. This will allow for more efficiency in providing customer service and grassroots outreach. In addition, it will also allow for better stewardship of your tax dollars. My new assignment will be to serve as the Mayor’s Neighborhood Liaison for Warren Township. The previous liaison retired several months ago.

The new MNL for the Pike Township/Outer Northwest District will be Noelle Malatestinic. She has been a MNL for over five years (on the northeast side) and brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to the position. Again, we are targeting August 1st as the start date for the formal transition, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Adopt a “Pike” Block

Every block counts!

Do your part by helping to keep the street, sidewalks, alleyways, curbs and sewer drains around your house clean of litter on an ongoing basis!

Sign up to coordinate neighbors to keep your block clean and beautified through the Adopt-A-Block program with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc.!

Your block will be scored for its cleanliness on a monthly basis, April through October. In return for keeping your block clean, you will receive resources — gloves, trash bags, tools, flowers and trees!

A clean block is a safe block!
• Clean blocks send the signal to criminals that someone cares, and reduces instances of illegal dumping and property crimes.
• Blocks free of litter result in increased property values for our homes.
• The activity of cleaning our block will help us get to know our neighbors and feel a stronger sense of community.

FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT ADOPT-A-BLOCK AND OTHER NEIGHBORHOOD BEAUTIFICATION RESOURCES, VISIT WWW.KIBI.ORG OR CALL 317-264-7555 X106.

Indy DO Day

Indy DO Day Organizers Seek 100,000 Volunteers to Participate in First Community-Wide Service Initiative

An Indianapolis grassroots coalition is seeking to unite and mobilize 100,000 volunteers for community-wide service initiative – called Indy DO Day. Organizers envision that the people-powered initiative will for the first time energize the entire community to come together in service over the course of three days – October 10-12, 2013

Right now, the coalition is calling on all Indianapolis businesses and nonprofits. Businesses are asked to commit their time to serving the community while nonprofits are asked to submit their needs.

The goal of Indy DO Day is for residents of Indianapolis to get to know their neighbors, take ownership of their neighborhoods and take care of one another. A community service project can be anything from hyper-local, neighborhood-focused projects that can be as varied as getting your hands dirty through a beautification project to donating your skills or materials to a local charity to giving your time to help a neighbor in need.
